Concept 30 and 31 Brainstormers

Concept 30
#1:
Kelly:
A - Kelly wants to be popular with the "in" crowd at her school.
B - Her geeky cousin is staying with them and would want to bond over the summer and Kelly doesn't want to be mean about it.

Kelly's Mom:
A - Kelly's Mom invited Kelly's geeky cousin to stay over the entire summer.
B - Kelly's Mom wants them to bond so they can have a healthy relationship.

Kelly's Cousin:
A - Kelly's Cousin wants to stay with them during the summer.
B - Kelly's Cousin wants to spend more time with Kelly.

Compatible - Mom B and Cousin B.  Mom B and Cousin A.

Incompatible - Kelly A and Mom AB/Cousin AB.

#2:
Win/Win - Have Kelly's Cousin end up being really cool instead of "geeky" as Kelly first thought.
Kelly becomes geeky like her cousin.

No Win/ No Win - Kelly and her cousin hate each other to the point that Kelly's mom does not want any people over.

Win / Loss - Kelly's cousin does not come over and Kelly's mom gives the O.K. to have Kelly bring in the "in" crowd to their house.

#3:
A - The main character wants help in school to be able to go to college.

B -  The main character creates multiple bonds with her group of friends.

Concept 31
#1: Cowboys & Aliens, 50/50, Thor
Cowboys & Aliens - Very early - Main character is found by roaming bandits
50/50 - 1/3rd into the movie - Main character is diagnosed with a rare cancer
Thor - Early - Main character loses his powers and is sent to Earth

#2:
1) I may become friends with the person in the wheelchair.

2) He would at first be in shock, then thank me and be in my debt forever.

3) They may look at me oddly for helping someone or congratulate me and may become friends with the kid in the wheelchair.

4) They would be very angry at me and the kid in the wheelchair and harass both of us until my friends or his friends come to our aid.

#3:
The pedophiliac teacher would make first contact with our main character.  This would lead her to enlisting the help of her newly-acquainted friends.  Values would be lowered to be in line with her new friends.  Skill level would rise because of new tips and tricks learned from the new friends.  Relationship would grow with new friends in a new setting.

Concept 29 Brainstormer

#2

INT. - PARENT'S CAR - NIGHT

MR. and MRS. JOE are conversing on how the night went.

                                                              MRS. JOE
It was nice to see those two
again.  It's been SUCH a long
time since we had a good con-
                                                  versation like that.

                                                               MR. JOE
                                                   Yup.

INT. - JOE'S HOUSE - NIGHT
INTERCUT CLEANING SEQUENCE

JOE is standing in the middle of his living room, a mess and in shambles compared to what it had looked like a few hours ago.  Joe knows his parents must be coming home by now, since it is a few minutes after 10:00pm.  Joe surveys the scene of the crime.

                                                                JOE (V.O.)
                                                        Oh boy... what a night.

He hurriedly begins to clean up the room.  Just as he is starting to get some progress towards removing all evidence of his party, the phone rings.  Joe hesitates for a second, then walks over to pick it up.

                                                                JOE
                                                                     (nervously)
                                                        Hello?

                                                      END

Concept 28 Brainstormer

#2:

1.  The arrival of both parties at the Appatomox Court House.  I would do this to introduce who was at the scene where the Confederate States surrendered to the Union.

2.  The signing of both parties on the treaty, ending the Civil War.  A very important event and should be the main point of the master scene.

3.  The announcement and feelings afterwards of the signing of the treaty.  A fitting conclusion to a bloody Civil War.

Concept 27 Brainstormers

1.  Thatcher should ask the question during a ride together on the subway.  This way, it won't seem like Thatcher is only talking to her about homework.  Also, he would have the possibility of being able to talk even more with her than just at a school corridor between classes.

2.  Setting: Film Studies Classroom
Social Background: Working on a script
Size: Big enough
Décor and Lighting: Classroom with posters and references to movies or T.V. shows.

3.  Film locations I would choose for a non-linear story are: a parking lot, an expansive National Park, a subway, an abandoned house

A person would take multiple ways to get to the same location each time, with different things happening every scene respectively.

Pilot Critique "Love Hexagon"

Format - 2

Unique/Interesting Characters - 1

Entertaining Story/Conflict - 1

Formatting is off, change of fonts and weird gaps of spacing in between scenes.  Characters have nothing unique to each other.  Story is typical life of a group of girls having a crush on a single guy.  No real conflict other than fighting over one person.

Groundhog Day Reflection

The non-linear structure that they used is that the main character relives the same day countless times until he finally has a day where he becomes the best person he could possibly be.  Groundhog Day is more like Run Lola Run than Memento and Citizen Kane.  In Run Lola Run, the main character doesn't necessarily 'relive' the same day but we see the same scenario play out three different ways.  This is similar to Groundhog Day because the main character in Groundhog Day plays out each day differently than the last.    In Citizen Kane and Memento, they don't use this type of non-linear structure.  Citizen Kane has the same person but from different perspectives on multiple things and in Memento it's reverse-chronological order.

Pilot Critique "Cheaters"

Format - 1

Unique/Interesting Characters - 1 1/2

Entertaining Story - 1

Did not use the correct Script Format.  The characters are very stereotypical, a lot like cheerleaders.  There is not really a story here, other than all the girls liking a football player named John Tucker.

Pilot Critique "Troubled Life"

Format - 3

Unique/Interesting Characters - 2

Entertaining Story/Conflict - 2

Format is all good.  Only the main character is any interesting at all, barely any exposition on her "friends" and Jeremy.  Conflict has not really been too crazy, yet.

Psycho Reflection

There are many different ways to experiment with screenplays, such as killing off the hero very early.  That's what makes it most creative and interesting and unique compared to modern movies.  The main characters are unique and have their own kind of problems.  The side characters aren't too one-dimensional but not enough to be a main character in my opinion.  The writer has a very subtle humor tone and there are various instances of symbolism.  For example, all the stuffed birds and shots of Norman making him look like a bird when he talks and chews.  This is also in reference to the main hero's last name, Krane, which is a type of bird.

Concept 25 Brainstormer

Question #2:

1. "The new girl finds a skilled bunch in a new town."
2. "High school is just full of unique people and problems."
3. "Professional teens doing what they do best."
4. "Guinevere's new friends have their specialties."
5. "Guinevere has a real group of friends to rely on."
6. "Not your average group of juveniles."

Pilot Critique #2

Chris and Olivia

Format: 3

Unique/Interesting Characters: 2

Entertaining Story/Conflict: 2

A little more immediate conflict that is in your face would be nice.  Format is good and correct.  The characters aren't too unique yet, but that's because it is just the first 10 scenes.

Pilot Critique

Format: 2

Unique/Interesting Characters: 2

Entertaining Story/Conflict: 3

I think some of the formatting needs a little work.  Correct format on certain shots rather than in the descriptions.  The characters need a bit more traits or attributes, maybe spend some more time on exposition rather than getting into the conflict so quickly.  Conflict is pretty sudden, no time to think which is pretty cool.
